What sets "Reflections of Tomorrow" apart is its ability to serve as both a living space and a window to the world. By looking inward through the space, one can witness the longing and yearning for a better life. As night falls, the interplay of light and shadow creates a captivating reflection, revealing the extraordinary figures hidden within the design.
The implementation of this concept began with the designer's keen observation of the space. Wallpaper, cement board, metal plate, black glass, mirror, and system cabinets were carefully chosen and utilized to bring the design to life.
The interior space of "Reflections of Tomorrow" spans 25 levels and includes a public area, entrance, dining room, living room, and an open-end study. The private area comprises a master bedroom, secondary bedroom, and a bathroom, providing a comfortable and functional living environment.
Beveled shapes, a recurring theme in this design, can be seen in the master bedroom. The beveled shapes on the wall transition into vertical lines, while the ceiling gradually rises from one side of the bed to the opposite corner, cleverly avoiding any beam-columns. The room harmoniously echoes the beveled-shaped theme found in the public area. Storage needs were also taken into consideration, with sliding doors creating a cutting ratio at the back of the bed for storage volume. Gray cabinets and paints were used to balance the lively feeling brought by the ceiling, resulting in a comfortable and cozy atmosphere.
Completed in June 2020 in Taiwan, "Reflections of Tomorrow" is a testament to the designer's meticulous research and attention to detail. Irregular beveled geometries cut through wallpapers, tawny glass, and black glass on the facade, creating visually intriguing layers and establishing connections. Large windows draw in abundant natural sunlight, expanding the visual space of the public area. The inverted slant on both the facade and ceiling challenges the rigid rules of straight and square buildings, adding a touch of interest and uniqueness.
One of the design challenges faced by Yan Lin Wu was how to seamlessly connect the entrance, dining room, living room, and open study. The open-end design method was employed, with a round table facilitating circulation. The beveled shape, starting from the entryway and continuing through the materials used, such as wallpapers, tawny glass, and black glass, created irregular beveled geometries. This design choice allows daylight to penetrate deep into the transparent interior space, effectively addressing the issue of shading in the area.
"Reflections of Tomorrow" is a testament to Yan Lin Wu's vision of creating a desire for a better tomorrow and delivering extraordinary home experiences on ordinary days. The facade of the public area, outlined with a stable cement board, contrasts with the beveled walls made of tawny glass, black glass, and wallpapers. The ceiling, divided with an unequal shape, further enhances the central theme of the design.
With its innovative approach and attention to detail, "Reflections of Tomorrow" has been recognized with the prestigious A' Design Award in 2022. This Iron A' Design Award acknowledges the design's practicality, innovation, and adherence to professional and industrial requirements. It is a testament to the fulfillment and positive feelings that this design brings, contributing to a better world.
